Environmental services. Tree-maintenance services. Term contracts for environmental maintenance 2013:
Contract 1 Eastern Division EME1 (Carrickfergus & Newtownabbey, Belfast North, Belfast South).
Contract 2 Eastern Division EME2 (Lisburn & Castlereagh, North Down).
Contract 3 Southern Division EMS2 (Ards, Down, Newry & Mourne).
Contract 4 Western Division EMW2 (Omagh, Fermanagh, Strabane].
The scope of the Contracts shall require the Contractor to carry out a variety of environmental maintenance related works. Such Works may include but not be limited to the following, which are provided by way of examples:
i. Maintaining grass areas in adopted urban and rural locations.
ii. Controlling weed growth in adopted areas.
iii. Cleaning and jetting of the road drainage system.
iv. Cutting or removing trees and hedges in urban and rural locations.
Many of the work activities to be carried out under the Contracts shall require the Contractor to employ and use skilled personnel and specialist equipment and resources associated with such work activities. Such work activities shall include but not be limited to the following, which are provided by way of examples:
i. Maintaining grass areas using tractor / mowers;
ii. Maintaining grass areas using small motorised units / strimmers;
iii. Cleaning of road and footpath gullies;
iv. Jetting of drainage systems and inspection chambers;
v. Weed Control to adopted areas;
vi. Emergency Responses (Grass Cutting / Gully Cleaning);
vii. Traffic Management on Roads as defined in the Roads (NI) Order 1993;
viii. Cut or remove trees and hedges and associated works.

Description of these options: The terms of contracts 1 (EME1), 3 (EMS2) and 4 (EMW2) shall initially be 3 years and may be extended on any number of occasions up to a maximum of 5 years at the sole discretion of the Department. The term of contract 2 (EME2) shall be 2 years. In the event the Department is unable for any reason to award a new contract to replace these contracts (EME1, EME2, EMS2 and EMW2), the term may be extended for a further period or periods up to a maximum of 6 months.
