The project is likely to be a combination of refurbishment and new development. The appointed design team will work with the College to establish the best use of existing and new buildings, consolidating college facilities on more than one of the existing sites or other(s). The approach that is being undertaken in order to secure new facilities has been identified as a potential model for the sector both regionally and national.
Bird College is seeking Expressions of Interest from architect-led teams with exceptional design skills for the redevelopment of the College’s facilities in Sidcup within the London Borough of Bexley.
The selection process is being managed by RIBA Competitions and will invite a shortlist of up to 6 teams to develop design concepts in response to the College’s outline brief. The competition will be held in two stages:
Stage 1: Expressions of Interest (with Pre-Qualification Questionnaire).
Stage 2: Submission of dialogues and concepts to illustrate possible design approach and final interview with.

Description of particular conditions: The intention will be to appoint the winning design team to develop their design proposals up to RIBA Stage D in the first instance. Further progression of the project will be subject to successful planning and funding applications, together with other associated fund-raising activities. It is currently anticipated that the successful team will be required to provide full design services from RIBA Stages B-L. However, the form of construction procurement is yet to be determined. Bird College may choose to transfer responsibility for development of the design to an incumbent contractor, at RIBA Stage D or E, and the team may work to Bird College or the contractor, depending on the circumstances.
