II.1.5)Short description of the contract or purchase(s)
This tender is for the manufacture and installation, or manufacture only, of bus passenger shelters and bus stop poles in the West Midlands.
Bus passenger shelters form part of the accessible public transport system and user needs must be at the forefront of the design and installation processes.
The infrastructure is intended for intensive public use and will be subject to the trials of such an environment, thus any design must take into consideration factors such as; vandalism, climatic degradation, collision damage and subsequent ease of cleaning and repair.
Centro wishes to procure shelters for use on the highway which can be used for the replacement of existing life expired infrastructure or to provide a higher standard of waiting environment than that currently existing.
The new shelters will match as far as practicable the current shelter designs.
Centro currently own the rights to this design type within the West Midlands.
The contractor will, however, be responsible for the structural design of their own products.
In producing the designs for the shelters the ability to accommodate additional add on features such as advertising panels and Real Time Information (RTI) units are also important requirements that must be fulfilled.
This contract is for an initial period of 27 months from 1st April 2014 until 30th June 2016 with options to extend.
