The councils of Darlington Borough, Hartlepool Borough, Middlesbrough Borough, Redcar and Cleveland Borough and Stockton on Tees Borough are seeking to learn from the market the best long-term arrangement for the management of waste.
The purpose of this exercise is to gather information, market knowledge and interest that will help the group to decide the shape and scope as well as the future arrangements for the management of waste. It is anticipated that options ranging from an authority making individual arrangements to a fully integrated waste management solution for the region will be considered.
The councils wish to gather information on how best to package (or not) the individual elements of waste management, to achieve value for money, sustainability over the long term and to optimise performance.
Each year the five councils dispose of approx. 296,626 tonnes of municipal solid waste comprising 25,202 tonnes of green compostable waste, 35 220 tonnes of recyclable waste collected from the kerbside (metal, cardboard, paper, glass, plastic) and 236,204 tonnes of general waste.
The councils currently have arrangements for the disposal of waste in place until 2020 (one contract covering the four Tees Valley authorities & a separate contract for Darlington).
The Councils are seeking a long-term contractual arrangement from 2020 onwards. There are a number of possible options that the Tees Valley Waste Management Group wants to explore.
The anticipated contract value will be dependent upon the solution and the contract term.

Interested parties should be registered as a supplier on the NEPO electronic tendering system, Pro Contract. Free registration to the system can be accessed via: www.qtegov.com.

The Tees Valley Waste Management Group will be holding an open day for organisations who are interested in contributing to this exercise. This will be held on 22.11.2012 at Central Hall in Darlington. This event will give interested economic operators the chance to hear in more detail the long term aspirations of the Tees Valley for waste management. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in one to one private discussions with Council Officers.

Organisations wishing to attend the Open Day should register at https://www.qtegov.com/procontract/supplier.nsf/frm_opportunity?openForm&contract;_id=CONTRACT-QTLE-8YNKBW&opp;_id=OPP-HIS-QTLE-8YNKFL&search;_id=&org;_id=ORG-QTLE-75FCMG&from;=supplier_home and download the attendance form and return via the NEPO portal to confirm their attendance no later than Friday 9.11.2012.
